“The Devil Made Me Do It” – Rethinking Evil and Sin
(Week 1) Creation: Origin of Evil
Question: Why does God permit evil?
Scripture: Genesis 1:1-5
“In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earthâand the earth was without form or shape, with darkness over the abyss and a mighty wind sweeping over the watersâThen God said: Let there be light, and there was light. God saw that the light was good. God then separated the light from the darkness. God called the light âday,â and the darkness he called ânight.â Evening came, and morning followedâthe first day.”
Description:
God and “Creation” (the universe) are irreconcilable. They have two divergent ways of existing: God is uni-dimensional, while Creation is multi-dimensional; God’s existence is eternal (and unlimited), Creation’s is spacio-temporal (and limited). In God, there is only “good;” in Creation, “good” and “evil” coexist. Where did the “evil” come from? How can this be?
